Probiotic Glossary
Before shopping for a probiotic supplement for dogs and cats there are a few terms you need to know:
“Flora” – refers to bacteria
“CFU” – Stands for “Colony Forming Units”. This is the unit used to measure the amount of probiotics in a supplement.
“Strains” – This is the word used to describe the species of probiotics in your pet’s supplement. Ten strains of probiotics would mean 10 different species of probiotic bacteria is in your pet’s supplement. Different species = different benefits. As a general rule of thumb we recommend using a product with multiple strains of probiotics to get the most benefit.
