Outdoor workout ideas for pet lovers

As the Spring weather warms up we are able to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Here are our favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors with our pets:

Go for a walk

The best way to ease your pet into exercise is going on a short walk each day. Start by walking away from your house for 5 minutes and walk 5 minutes back. Increase the amount of time each week.

Go for a run

It has been estimated that dogs need between 30 and 120 minutes of exercise each day depending on their age, breed, size, and overall health. (Read more about your pet’s exercise needs here.) It has been estimated that humans need between 75 and 150 minutes of exercise each week. So for the love of dogs, take your dog on a run! Your dog will be happy, and your body will thank you too!

Go on a hike

Take your dog out to a hiking trail. The inclines and declines of hills create great resistance for your legs. Remember to keep your walking pace fast so that you can raise your heart rate. If there are no hiking trails nearby or you just prefer to stay local a big hilly park will work just as well. Run up steeper hills to really get your heart pumping and walk down the hills. Burn 400 calories for every hour of play time.
